Two Principles for Financial Success

There are two great principles for achieving financial success. The first principle is what we call the law of attraction. The law of attraction says that you are a living magnet. It says that your thoughts create a force field of energy that radiates out from you and attracts back into your life people and circumstances in harmony with them. Any thought you have, combined with an emotion, positive or negative, radiates out from you and attracts back into your life the people, circumstances, ideas, and opportunities consistent with it.

How to Attract the Success You Desire
Many people feel that this is perhaps the most important of all mental laws. It says that if you have a very clear idea in your mind of your desired goal, to become wealthy, and you can hold that idea in your mind on a continuing basis, you will inevitably draw into your life the resources that you need in order to achieve it. Every person who has become wealthy or successful has become wealthy and successful as a result of holding the idea of wealth and success in their mind long enough and hard enough, until they drew into their lives the resources they needed to accomplish it.

Your World Reflects Your Thoughts
The second principle is called the law of correspondence. This mental law is very powerful. It says, "as within, so without." It says that your outer world is like a mirror that reflects back to you what is going on in your inner world. And this law of correspondence says that everything that happens outside of you corresponds to something that's going on inside of you. When we say that your outer world is a reflection of your inner world, we mean both at a conscious and at a subconscious level.

Visualize Your Goals Clearly
If you consciously believe that you have the ability to achieve your goals and you can hold a picture of those goals clearly in your mind long enough and hard enough, eventually your outer world will correspond with it.

Three Reflections of Success
There are three places where we see this law of correspondence. First of all, your outer world of people will correspond exactly with your own attitude. You will always see your attitude reflected back to you in the faces and the behaviors of the people around you. If you have a positive, optimistic attitude, people will respond to you almost immediately, even before you open your mouth, in a positive and cheerful way.

Relationships Show You Who You Are
The second area where we see the law of correspondence is in your relationships. Your relationships will always mirror back to you exactly the kind of a person you are. When you are happy and optimistic and at peace, your relationships will be happy and harmonious and loving. But when your thinking is disrupted or negative for any reason, consciously or unconsciously, this will be immediately reflected in your relationships.

Inner and Outer Wealth
The third place you see the law of correspondence is with regard to your wealth. Your external world of wealth and financial accomplishment will be a mirror image of your inner world of preparation. The only part of the equation that you can control is your conscious thoughts, and if you can keep your conscious thoughts on what you want, on your images of wealth and affluence, eventually your external world of reality and experiences will reflect it back to you.

Action Exercises
Here are two things you can do to apply these principles in your financial life:

First, guard your thoughts carefully. Whatever you think about, combined with the emotions of desire or fear, you will attract into your life. Be sure that you are attracting what you want by continuing to think only about what you want.

Integrity

Alexander the Great
Alexander the Great, the king of the Macedonians, was one of the most superb leaders of all time. He became king at the age of 20, and in the next 11 years, he conquered much of the known world. When he was at the height of his power, he would still draw his sword at the beginning of battle and lead his men forward into the conflict. He insisted on leading by example. Alexander felt that he could not ask men to risk their lives unless he was willing to demonstrate by his actions that he had complete confidence in the outcome. The sight of Alexander charging forward excited and motivated his soldiers so much that no force on earth could stand before them.

Realism
Realism is a form of intellectual honesty. The realist insists upon seeing the world as it really is, not as he wishes it were. This objectivity, this refusal to engage in self-delusion, is a mark of the true leader.

Responsibility
Responsibility is perhaps the hardest of all leadership qualities to develop. The acceptance of responsibility means that, as President Harry Truman said, "The buck stops here." If you run into an obstacle or have a setback, and you make excuses rather than accept responsibility, it can mean the difference between success and failure.

Action Exercise
In the end, you become a motivational leader by becoming the kind of person others want to get behind and support in every way. The Law of Exchange

Your most valuable assets, in terms of cash flow, are your physical and mental capital—your earning ability. Marketing and selling are two separate activities. Marketing is the process of lead generation. Marketing embraces everything you do up to the point of sale. The design, development, and determination of the exact product or service that you are going to sell are the first part of marketing. The second is to think through every element of the marketing mix before you begin. These elements are product, price, promotion, packaging, positions, and people.

Product/Service
What exactly is your product or service? What does it do for your customer? How does it improve his or her life or work? What products or services are you going to offer? Any changes in the product or service offered can dramatically change the entire nature of your business.

Price
How much are you going to charge for your product? Will you sell wholesale or retail? How do your prices compare with those of your competitors? Are they higher or lower? How do you justify your prices, whatever they are?

Place
Where exactly are you going to locate your business? Where are you customers? Do you sell from a retail storefront or by telephone and Internet from your offices?

Promotion
How do you advertise and attract customers? Once you have attracted potential customers, what is the specific sales process that you use to convert those prospects into customers? What systems do you use for developing and maintaining successful sales process to get customers to buy from you?

Packaging
What do your product or service, place of business, and every other visual element of your company look like to your customers? Customers are extremely visual. They form their first impression about you and your company within four seconds of seeing you for the first time. Looking from the outside, is every part of the customers visual experience with regard to your company excellent in every way?

Positioning
How are you positioned in the minds and hearts of your customer? What words to your customers use when they talk about you and describe you to others? If your name were mentioned in a customer survey, how could customers and non customers refer to you and your business?

People
Who exactly are the people who interact with your customers? What do they look like? How do they dress? What do they say? Prospective customers are largely emotional. They make most of their decisions based on the way they are treated by the people in your organization. What kind of "people experience" do customers have when they deal with you? How could it be improved?

Action Exercise
Determine what you will have to do to get your customers to give you a nine or ten score on the question, "Based on your experience with us, would you recommend us to your friends and family?"

The fourth major source of self-made millionaires in America are salespeople and sales consultants. Fully five percent of self-made millionaires are men and women who are the top salespeople in their fields. They never started their own businesses. They never went to college or university to get professional degrees. They just became very good salespeople for their products or services and were paid very good money. Here's an exercise for you; imagine that it's possible for you to ear n ten times your current annual wage. If you're ear ning $25,000, imagine for a moment that it's possible for you to ear n $250,000, a 1000% increase.

Believe In Yourself
The first reaction of most people to that exercise is to smile briefly and then to begin thinking about why it isn't possible. One man said to me, "If you knew how many years it's taken for me to get to what I'm earning today you wouldn't be suggesting that I could earn ten times as much."

There Are No Excuses
Mark Twain once wrote that there are a thousand excuses for every failure but never a good reason. The tragedy of the average American is that whereas his or her main preoccupation seems to be money, or the lack thereof, the average person has the inherent potential to ear n far more than he or she is doing currently.

Can Someone Be 10x Better?
Is the manager earning $250,000 per year ten times as smart as the manager earning $25,000? 10 times as experienced? Does he or she work 10 times harder? Of course not. None of these are physically or mentally possible, but there are people in every business earning many times more than others with the same average age, experience and intelligence.

I.Q. Doesn't Really Matter
In fact, a few years ago in New York, a thousand men and women were selected at random and tested for I.Q. Between the one having the highest I.Q. in this sample and the one with the lowest, there was a difference of only 2 1/2 times. But between the person earning the most, who by the way, was not the one with the highest I.Q. and the one earning the least, who was not the one with the lowest I.Q., there was a difference of 100X in income.

Be Clear About Your Goals
There are many similarities between business and war. In both cases, the victor is the one who uses superior strategy against his or her competition.

There are three principles of military strategy you can apply to your work every single day. The first idea from the military is called the Principle of Maneuver. The principle of maneuver says that you should be clear about the goal, but be flexible about the process of achieving it. According to the Menninger Institute, this quality of flexibility is the most important single quality that you will require for success in times of rapid change.

Be Open to Continuous Feedback
A key peak performance quality for you is to "accept feedback and self-correct." Peak performers are those who can take information from their environment and even if the information is contrary to all of their planning, they can accept the information, modify their plans, and continue moving forward. They are always open to new ideas and insights.

Learn What You Need to Know
The second military principle you can use is the Principle of Intelligence. This principle of intelligence means simply, "get the facts!" The most important thing in business decision making is for you to get accurate information. Facts don't lie. It is important that you get the real facts, not the assumed facts or the apparent facts or the obvious facts, or the hoped for facts, but the real, provable facts.

Make Better Decisions
Perhaps the key job of the executive is decision making. The quality of the decisions that you make will be in direct proportion to the amount of time that you take to gather timely and accurate information. The very best thing that you can do, if you have insufficient information, is to delay making a decision at all.

Invest Your Resources Wisely
The third military principle applied to strategic planning is the Principle of Economy of Force. Economy of force means that you expend only the resources necessary to achieve the objective and not more. It also means that you commit sufficient resources to achieve the objective once you have decided upon it.

Since your own personal energy is all you really have to invest over the course of your lifetime, the military principle of economy says that you should be very selfish when deciding how you are going to use your self. Keep asking your self, "How important is this?" and more important, "How important is this to me?"

Action Exercises
Here are two ideas that you can apply immediately to be more strategic in your work and personal life.
First, remain flexible when you are working towards your goal. In times of rapid change, all of your best ideas can be contradicted by new information. Be willing to try different things. Be open to new inputs and ideas.

My multimillionaire mentor taught me something new today

My multimillionaire mentor Datuk 'M' secretary phoned me this morning reminding me about my meeting with my mentor. Seriously, I don't remember about this meeting cos I've been busy the whole week. But then again, I'm very excited to see him because today he is going to teach me something new.

8.00am sharp I was at Datuk 'M' office.... and like always he welcome me with a big smile on his face. He started by saying,"My friend, there isn't any short cut to be a millionaire but there's an easier way. It's the property way....". He continued, " I'm a multi-millionaire because I developed properties."

For 4 hours he lectured and shared with me the secrets of real estate business especially development of property and I absorbed it like a sponge. He said that I'm a fast learner and I can start doing real estate business immediately. So he gave a 50 acre of land to manage and asked me what can I do with it?

In my heart I know he is testing me. So I replied, " I need to do a feasiblity study on the property, it's location, location, location." Then he replied," You are good. Tell me about the land potential when we meet again soon." Yesiree... and I will do just that.

Moral of the story: We need to do whatever it takes to improve our knowledge. Never stop learning. Never be shy to ask.

Millionaire's advice to me: Don't give people fish, instead teach them to fish.

Late Monday afternoon (it's Thaipusam holiday in Malaysia), my mentor introduced me to his friend Datuk 'H' from Kelantan. He is a self-made millionaire who owns fishing trawlers in the east coast. If I'm not mistaken he owns about 17 tuna (ikan tongkol) trawlers and purchasing 9 more. He export his catch to Taiwan and Japan.

As 'kepo' as I am, I asked him for tips and he shared with me some interesting stories. He told me that he was very passionate about fishing since very young. While his friends were playing football he was busy fishing. His classmates laughed at him when he told them that he wanted to be a fisherman.

At the age of 14, he started his life mission of becoming a fisherman. Initially,he had only a sampan. He build his business from zero-up and at the age of 30, an opportunity come when a chinese man offer him partnership in his fishery business. He learned the tricks of the trade and decided to go for it on his own. The rest is history as the saying goes.

Moral of the story: Work in the area of your natural talent. If you can make money with your talent and passion, good fortune awaits you.

Power breakfast with my millionaire mentor

8am Friday morning, my millionaire mentor Datuk'M' called me for breakfast. "Othman, this one you need to be with me. I want to share with you something and also I want to introduce you to my banker friend." Wow... thats great.

Datuk was sipping his coffee when I arrived. "Ah... you are here, sit down just order what you want and lets have power breakfast together", Datuk smile. The day before, I've introduced a hotelier to Datuk, who wanted to sell off two of his hotels. The hotels are still in construction stage located in very prime location in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka town. It seems like the hotelier gone broke when his investments with Merrill Lynch go down the drain. He like to sell off the 'abandoned' hotel projects to Datuk and in principle, they have agreed on a certain terms.

Datuk said to me, "Today, I'm going to show you how easy it is to make money. Even if I have hundred million dollars, I won't buy the hotel using my money. That is where my banker friend comes in." Minutes later, Datuk's banker friend arrived. He is a senior officer with a very reputable bank.

After some small talks, the banker asked, "How may I help you Datuk?" He replied, "I'm taking over 2 abandoned hotel projects and I need about RM30 million to kick start the project." Few seconds lapse and the banker said, "Based on your assets, I guess we have no problem with that. When you need it?" Datuk replied, "As soon as the take-over contract is sign. By the way, this is Othman's project and he will establish the time-line for us."

The banker looked at me and said. " Young man, if this deal 'jadi' you will be a millionaire." I am speechless. In my heart I'm shouting, "Praise to Allah, praise to Allah!". Datuk told me that, when a banker says you going to be a millionaire, you are going to be a millionaire. Cos a banker knows what he is talking about.

The lesson Datuk trying to put across is this: If you want to be a mechanic, learn the tricks from a mechanic and not a plumber. If you want to be a millionaire, learn it from a millionaire and not just anybody from the street. True.... very true.

The 1st thing my millionaire friends said to me...

"Othman, you are going to be big. Your strategies made me tons of money and it's so easy for you to do it for yourself. You have what it takes to become very successful. So before I start sharing my millionaire secrets with you, I want you to promise me one little thing?"

My millionaire friend shake my hand like 'akad nikah'. "What is that?" I replied. With a smile on his face he said, "No matter how much money you make, how much wealth you accumulate.... DON'T CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE!". Hmmm.... then he told me his life story.

He started business with no money and made his first million in 1990. The money came so fast that he started to buy porsche, ferrari, big banglos... all in instalments. He said, why pay cash when you can pay 'pelan-pelan'. Less than 5 years, the economy fell and his business when bust. With no money to pay all his luxuries he was made bankrupt. All gone down the drain.

He struggled for 12 hard years and managed to turn around his business. And now he is a very successful multi-millionaire once again. Very humble, very low profile but very very rich. Ok, thats the 1st lesson. If you are going to be rich... DON'T CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE.

By the way, my millionaire friend have ordered a brand new Range Rover Sports at a whopping price of RM680,000 and he told me that he'll give his old Range Rover to me as a present. YAHOOOO! Soon I can drive like a rich man hehehe..... (thats the picture of his old model Range Rover).

I was reading a book when this phrase suddenly struck me. It reminded me of my strength when face with life and business challenges. My friends says I'm strong but still I could not explain what that strength were until now. A quote from Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the United States says it all.

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated failures. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

Where is the money?

The question most of my friends asked is. "Where is the money?". They have been working all their life, doing business all their life and this is the question they keep on asking. Hmm..... I wonder why?

My guru, Brian Tracy have this to say, "Othman, please tell your friends, they can have all the money they want. There is plenty of money available out there. There is no real shortage. You can have virtually all you really want and need. We live in a generous universe and we are surrounded on all sides by blessings and opportunities to acquire all we truly desire." The reason why people short of money is because their attitude of "money not enough". That will have a major impact on becoming rich or not.

Make a Decision. "People become wealthy because they decide to become wealthy."They become wealthy because they believe they have the ability to become wealthy. Because they believe this completely, they act accordingly. They consistently take the necessary actions that turn their beliefs into realities. And you can always tell what your beliefs really are by looking at your actions. There is no other way.

Moral of the story: People are poor because they have not yet decided to become rich.

If you're in business pay yourself first

My favourite book is The Richest Man in Babylon by George Classon. It teaches me to "Pay yourself first." What does that mean. It meant, priority is to put food on the table. After that you pay your bills etc.

I've seen too many people struggle to even feed their family because they used up all the money to pay the bills first, worst they 'kaki enjoy'. Don't do that. You cannot do business with you and your family being hungry. Pay yourself first, then pay the bills. A hungry man is an angry man. No one wants to do business with an angry man, right?

But the secret to long-term financial accumlation is to save ten percent 10% of your earnings and never touch it. This is the system most successful entreprenuer start with.

Moral of the story: Remain humble my friend.

Starting business with no or little financial capital?

This is the question I've been asked lots of time at the end of my seminars. The answer is yes! it can be done easily. Here are the steps:

1. Find something that you are very passionate about.
2. Or you have some specific skills or talents.
3. Do market surveys whether your skills are in demand (at least among your contacts).
4. If yes, find out the service rates.
5. Sell your services to your immediate contacts because they love to support you.
6. If your services worth RM500, you sell it 100 friends and you'll make RM50,000.
7. Thats it! Now you are doing 'good' business.

Do you need to have an office for this? No. Do you need staff? No. Do you need prepaid phone lines? Yes. So do you still need financial capital to start a business? The answer is a big No.
Moral of the story: Start small by using your skills and sweat. Don't use money. Try it!

Secrets to fountain of youth

Yesterday, I've met a friend from Singapore. He looked years younger than what he used to be months ago. His secret to fountain of youth is 'regular physical exercise, positive mindset and sex'. It really works!

Do we have to look our age? No. Its only a number. Age is divided into 3 factors:

1. Chronological age (time)

2. Biological age (body)

3. Psychological age (soul)

Chronologically we can be 40 or 50 years old, but biologically our body can look like 28 or 32. With proper nutrition and exercises.

Moral of the story: It is possible to be 40 or 50 years old with a body of a 28 year old and a wisdom of an 83 year old. So... how old are you?

After a long break, today 5th January, is the beginning of working day for 2009 for most of us. What really scary is that, lots and lots of people listened to the news and says the economy is going down down down.

To all my friends I must say, "Don't listen to the news. Lots of opportunity out there. There's always 2 sides of the equation. If lots of people going to lose, somebody going to win big. Choose to be the winner. Its your choice."

Miracles do happen

Last night I was passing down some shops around my place when somebody greeted me, "Assalamualaikum Othman Hamzah." Hmmm... who could it be? It was an old buddy that I've not met for a very long time.

"You still remember me?" he asked. He reminded me that he owes me about $1,200 15 years ago in Singapore. I told him that I dah 'halalkan' long time ago because I understand his hardship then. He invited me for a drink and we talked about old times and what he's doing now.

He gave me his card and my my my... he is a chairman and MD of an established and successful company here in Malaysia. He says that because I've helped him 15 years ago, now its time for him to repay me. I told him I dah halalkan. He said, "I'll give you much more than that. If you have any good projects and short of funds, I'll be your funder." Wow! to that I must say thank you. Alhamdulillah.

Later we say our goodnights and he drove away in his brand new Mercedes worth RM680k. Wow!

Moral of the story: Don't ever look down on entreprenuers who are financially broke, always be kind and supportive. Sooner or later he will turn around & he will remember you. Miracles do happen!

Mark the man's words

It's an honour for me to have met Dato' Ahmad Sabree Cheek, Menteri Penerangan Malaysia at his office in Angkasapuri weeks ago. I came to propose some ideas for RTM with a friend Datuk Hussien and the discussion was good.

There were few things that he mentioned that worth thinking for people in the industry, at least.

1. "Year 2009 RTM will be rebranded." And I'm already seeing it on TV1 and TV2 . That good!

2. "The airtime is yours if you can find sponsors to pay for the tv programme productions and airtime. " Easy money if you are a marketing man. Package a TV programme that suit the needs of an advertiser, get them to sponsor it on RTM and you are done.

Repeat the process and you be a Yusuf Haslam, a friend and a multi-millionaire with TV programmes. I wonder how he's doing now? Let me check and post it here soon.

You know this gentleman, Freddie Fernandez? He is the man that groomed Mawi to his stardom status. He became a good pal of mine recently. He is the President of Karyawan Malaysia an organisation that takes care of artists and celebrities welfares.

I've recently introduced him to Ketua Menteri Melaka, Datuk Seri Ali Rustam and both of them feels a collaboration will bring a win-win situation to the state and organisation. Due to that, Melaka government donated RM50,000 and provide office space to Karyawan in Melaka.

Freddie mentioned to me that, lots of people says they knew this minister that minister but not me. I bring him straight to the Chief Minister. When I asked Freddie to help me be famous like Mawi he replied, "I will definitely try." That sounds good to me.... hehehe.

An associate called me and say, "Man, what you think if we do a Mawi, Jamal Abdillah and Othman Hamzah concert, we call it Konsert Gadis Melayu?" I say lets go for it but let me slim down dulu k! Alahai.....

Oh my God. Suhaimi Yusof is @ my door!

Days ago, Suhaimi Yusof came visit me @ my house in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam. He is forever a charming man. U see him on tv, that is what he is in real life. He came to seek some opinion from me on his plans. You wont believe me what his plans were? He don't want to be famous in M'sia. He wanted to be RICH RICH RICH in Malaysia. Dats my man!

The only way to be rich in Malaysia is to do business and his expertise is TV programme productions. He did it in Singapore, he can do it in Malaysia. I hope I've given him enough tips to get want he wanted. Best wishes to you Bro Suhaimi and we love you!

Opportunity comes knocking

What a fantastic way to start the new year. Since launching my blog days ago, pouring of request I've received from friends to help out with their projects. Nothing big but here it is. If you have resources or solutions.... ideas please.

1. A friend of mine, want to sell off his petrol pump station "Shell" in Shah Alam area. He is retiring from the business and want to sell out. The sale include the land the station is sitting on. Mind you... the real estate is on prime land. He asked me to look for buyers.

2. This one you will laugh off, but I've seen the documents. A friend from Sulawesi, Indonesia, strikes gold in his backyard. This is high quality gold I'm talking about. His mining operation is a traditional 'kampung style' using panning techniques. He wanted to have proper machinery for his mining operation. He asked me to look for investors for the machineries and be his partner.

3. Another friend holding 'Leasing Licence' approved by Bank Negara, wanted to sell off the company with the licence. I've asked around the value of the licence and it is in hot demand. This licence gives you the rights to give loans to corporations, like banks or moneylender lah. I have interested takers already, negotiating now!

4. Have you seen Barney the purple dinosaur? A good friend of my developed an interesting concept like Barney that has a global appeal. I'm negotiating with a tv producer to produce it for broadcast regionally.

5. Last but not least, a creative group friends of mine including ex-tv executive producer called to say he got good scripts for TV and stage. Asked me to introduce to Rosyam Nor and Erma Fatimah. These people are my friends, so no problem!

Whatever happens, i update on this blog.

New Year Resolution Favourites!

Me and family was at a new year bbq party with neigbours and friends and I was asked numerous times about tips on how to stop smoking. These people knew I've helped lots of friends to stop smoking. You want to stop smoking immediately and stop coloring your lungs with tars, heres the technique ....

1. I show them the 'benefits' of smoking as in the picture.

2. Tell them if you don't stop smoking, then 'cancer cures smoking'.

3. They have to DECIDE to stop smoking. Once decisions are made, dey will stop smoking immediately for the rest of their life.

If they smokes again, it is nobody's fault but their own. DECIDE. DECIDE.DECIDE. Decisions can change lifes!
